Help needed with title of TV program
|
Back possibly in the early 80s there was a British show on (cant remember which channel) that used to feature new comedians, anyone remember the name of it? Cant for the life of me remember who presented it either

Wasn't it just called The Comedians.
The Comedians was a British television show of the 1970s (later reprised in the mid-1980s and early 1990s)

I re-watched The League of Gentlemen recently on Netflix. I wonder how much of that would get past the FEELS filter these days. It was only made about 15 years ago, wasn't it?

You don't need to wonder, Nurse.
There were three new (and final) episodes of The League of Gentleman broadcast just a couple of weeks ago. They're still available to watch again.
They pointedly dealt with the changing nature of what's deemed acceptable and what isn't -- noteably Babs chatting about trans and definitve articles etc...

well that has been a resounding success, about a year ago I posted on here looking for a comedian who was on tv ages ago and in his routine was Mr Kiplings cakes Exceedingly good. No one remembered it and I could not trace what I was looking for, namely a routine by some bloke.
So I remembered he was on a show featuring comedians as i discussed this last night. This bloke struck me as very funny at the time but I never saw him since. So when googling I got a reference to The Bob Monkhouse Show one series where he interviewed comedians and VOILA! My bloke popped up , his name was Roy Jay and this is the sketch , dated now obviously but 34 years ago it was very funny, anyone else know this guy or what became of him?

Sorry Nurse, didn't realise you had no iPlayer. Yes, they will surely roll around to Netflix eventually.
In the meantime, the cast discussed some of their thinking in this BFI interview on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A40fhZCA9os

I saw Roy Jay at the Circus Tavern, must have been around 83, he was on with some other comedians about at the time. I was mates with the manager there back then, remember him telling me 2 things about Roy Jay, he loved the booze & he had a cock like a baby's arm holding a jaffa orange! Both them things finished his career, he was pissed on stage at Butlins i think it was & got his knob out. Apparently he died about 10 years ago while doing gigs in Spain, read somewhere his body wasn't even claimed, bit tragic really.
